Security officers from a multi-agency team have decimated an al Shabaab camp in Ijara, Garissa county. The team raided the camp following an intelligence tip from members of the public in the area.
The successful raid uncovered contraband in the area among them two loaded pistol magazines, combat knives, assorted medicines and syringes, a hand-held radio, and tarpaulin among other items. The team was also able to arrest several al Shabaab militants operating from the camp suspected to be planning an attack in the country.
In recent weeks, the members of the public have increasing cooperated with the police and other security in the areas to root out militants cumulatively averting would-be deadly attacks.

Moreover, officers also recovered drugs at the camp after confessions from returnees that al Shabaab militants are extremely abusing drugs and alcohol as well as sexually abusing women from neighboring communities.
In recent months, the multi-agency team in the area has been working on restoring public trust in them as well as receiving returnees who have proved very productive in offering insights on al Shabaab camps and operation both in Kenya and Somalia. This also comes as the terror group endures financial pressures, a decrease in numbers and an apparent crisis of morale.
