Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi the ISIS leader is currently nursing serious injuries following the March 18th airstrikes which hit him among three other men. The man who little is known about is reported to have been seriously wounded in the airstrike at al-Baaj near the village of Umm al-Rous.
Little is known about Abu Bakar al-Baghdadi. Though he is known to address his fighters in a mask, earning him the nickname “the invisible sheikh”.
According to The Guardian, the ISIS leader suffered life-threatening wounds and is now making a slow recovery which has however led to an urgent meeting among ISIS leaders who are planning to name Baghdadi’s successor.
The ISIS leader, Abu Bakar al-Baghdadi, has been living in al-Baaj where he believed the U.S forces could not easily access him, considering the place to be in a remote desert location.
Sources say the airstrike which purportedly hit Baghdadi was aimed at a convoy of local ISIS leaders killing three key ISIS fighters.
Abu Bakar al-Baghdadi’s possible death could be another big blow to these Islamic extremists after losing Tikrit to Iraqi forces in March.
The United States had placed a $10m bounty on his head after he was suspected to have been wounded sometime in November and December 2014. These claims were however inaccurate. The man is believed to have been trained by al-Qaeda commanders while serving his term in the US custody at Camp Bucca in Iraq.
Later when he was released, he became the ISIS leader following a dispute between him and al-Qaeda leaders over extremism which was not the purpose of the Jihad war according to al-Qaeda.
