With the recent injection of 100 million dollars into the war against terrorism by the US a terror suspect has been arrested in Taita sub-county. The man is being held at Voi Divisional Criminal Investigation Department while he is being interrogated.
The 23-year old suspect is an Islam convert who currently goes by the alias Idris Hassan Tole. He is name is Morris Mwakina Tolle who travelled to Garissa where he is believed to have been for the past year and where he was radicalized.
Idris Hassan was arrested at Mgange-Nyika trading center following a tip off from the public who observed suspicious behavior when he returned home. He is believed to have travelled to Somalia where he received training from the militants
The terror suspect was found to possess 3 Somali currency notes, 3 mobile phones, Arabic literature and 3 sim cards. There was evidence that indicated he had travelled to Somalia as well as a bus ticket showing that he had come from Garissa.
The terror suspect is a mechanic by profession and said he converted to Islam while he was in Garissa. His arrest come s just a few days since the county commissioner of Voi said that the amnesty period in the county did not bring any youths who wished to surrender.
The public of Voi County in the past have shown high levels of vigilance and sense of collective security after they tipped off the police last year. The tip off led to the arrest of 11 terror suspects among them an Imam who was radicalizing the youths in a residential house in the county.
The Kenyan public is being urged to be vigilante to report anybody they suspect to be a terror suspect. Parent with missing youths are also advised to report to the police to help look for them. Deradicalization systems have been put up to aid the youths reenter the society.
