Without the decision of the formal Shura council of Al-Qaeda, Egyptian born Saif al-Adel has taken over the leadership of Al-Qaeda.
Saif has long played a key role in the terror group and closely worked with its top leadership.
Saif Al-Adel special forces background saw him bear the name Muhamad Ibrahim Makkawi. According to insider information, Muhamad Ibrahim Makkawi was chose based on his capacity and lack of leadership in the global terror network since the death of its father Osama Bin Laden.
Adels appointment is a decision of 8 or so top commanders in Afghan-Pakistani border area and Adel was one of the top leaders of the terror group.
Analysts insist the Saudi and Yemeni part of Al-Qaeda is not content with the new choice. They wanted a new Al-Qaeda leader to be from the Arabian Peninsula, the holy region as believed by the Islamic society.
Contrary to expectations that Ayman Al-Zawahari could take up the leadership of Al-Qaeda, Saif Al-Adel is a litmus test to the terror network polity.
Adel Al-Saif was once a Special Forces officer and fought the Russians in 1980 along Osama Bin Laden.
