Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery on Tuesday suspended nine top security officials for thorough investigations on criminal negligence in line with the April Garissa Attack which left 148 people dead an scores more injured.
The interdicted County security team over the Garissa Attack would be prosecuted on various charges once the investigation team is able to prove that there was criminal negligence which led to the massive loss of lives.
Suspended officials include; the regional coordinator Ernest Mwinyi, County Commissioner Njenga Miiri, the County Administration Police commander Christopher Muthee, CID boss Musa Yego, police county commander Charles Wambugu and the sub county AP commander John Cheruiyot, local head of Anti-Terror Police Unit Mutuku Kimanzi, OCPD Benjamin Ongombe and Deputy OCS Charles Ayoro.
Inspector General of police Joseph Boinnet is expected to appoint an investigating team that will work with the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in this process.
The investigations are set to establish how the attack took place despite the presence of security officials who have been bestowed with the responsibility of ensuring Kenyans are safe and to clarify claims of shortage of officers who responded to the Garissa Attack.
Government has however taken drastic measures to ensure that terrorists are dealt with in Kenya and even across the borders; Somalia.
The Garissa Attack which Al Shabaab militia group claimed responsibility is one of the most gruesome terror attack on the Kenyan soil.
