The appointment of the new Chief of Defence Forces Lt. General Samson Mwathethe has been welcomed countrywide with leaders especially from the coast region terming his elevation as long overdue.
Lt. General Samson Mwathethe who is a second coastal native navy man to rise through to the highest rank in the forces after the retirement of General Raymond Kibwana. Villagers from his Mtwapa home, Kilifi County are in a celebratory mood, excited by President promoting their own son to the highest military rank.
Kilifi County Governor Amason Kingi said the Lt. General Samson Mwathethe deserved this position as he has good qualifications and an experienced officer in the Kenya Defence Forces.
Other who lauded the promotion of Lt. General Samson Mwathethe to the position of Chief of Defence Forces, include Mombasa Governor, Ali Hassan Joho who termed his appointment as not a surprise as he knew his experience and qualifications gave him an automatic choice to the position.
“As a career soldier Lt. General Samson Mwathethe has worked hard through the ranks with focus and discipline,” said Mr Joho. Mr Hassan Omar who is Senator for Mombasa also welcomed General Mwathethe’s appointment.
