Hundreds of Kenyan students took to the streets to honor the 148 students who perished in the Garissa Massacre. The students and other Kenyans on twitter have been using the hash tag #147notjustanumber in memory of the deceased (in reference to the earlier death toll).
The students walked and jogged through the CBD with banners saying “You remain in our Hearts”. The crowds said they wanted to remember the students for who they were and all they dreams they had.
The students further expressed their fear of being next as it was not clear where the terrorist would hit next. They also expressed their displeasure in the government for the lack of enough security in the country especially the North Eastern region that immediately neighbor’s Somali.
This comes in the wake of the North Eastern leaders promising to release a list of the radicalized youth in their counties as well as the financiers and Al-Shabaab sympathizers. Kenyan president Uhuru Kenyatta has vowed to completely destroy the militia and any of its affiliates.
Security in the East African country has been intensified with the airstrike on the Al-Shabaab in Somalia and the Kenyatta’s directive for the recommencement of training of the 10,000 police officers that had been halted.
Why didn’t the NE leaders share this list before with the authorities? Did it have to get to this point?
