Al Shabaab terrorists on Sunday evening conducted three separate but related attacks on government targets in Bosaso town. The attacks started when al Shabaab gunmen attacked the residence of Mohamed Ali Shire, the local administrator of Bari region. During the attack, the terrorists managed by kill one of the two guards as the other one sustained serious injuries. Shire was also injured during the attack and was rushed to hospital after the attackers left.
Still in Bosaso, the terrorists also attacked a military checkpoint where they killed one soldiers and wounded several civilians. The ensuing gunfire repelled the attackers who retreated from the vicinity.
The terrorists also attacked another military checkpoint at Yasmin Plaza where they killed an unspecified number of people as well as injured many others.
Al Shabaab took credit for the attacks and also pledged to conduct more attacks against government targets in the region.
Bari region is located in Puntland – a semiautonomous state in Northern Somalia. Al Shabaab has managed to establish operational bases at Golis Mountains and attempts by the security forces of Puntland to dislodge them from the mountain ranges have proved unsuccessful. Nonetheless, Puntland Defence Forces have pledged to continue combating the terror group.
