Al Shabaab has captured Buq-Gosar village after the Ethiopian contingent previously stationed in the area abruptly left. The Ethiopians have still not yet explained why their troops quit the village despite having intelligence reports that al Shabaab terrorists had established temporary bases nearby. The village of Buq-Gosar is situated near Beledweyne – a town in Central Somalia.
The Ethiopian soldiers abandoned their posts in the area today morning thus allowing al Shabaab to easily capture the village. Field intelligence reports indicate that al Shabaab militants are currently addressing the civilians as well as profiling them with the intent of identifying government agents and officials for retribution.
Today’s development comes at a time when al Shabaab has been pushed out of their major strongholds in Southern Somalia by KDF troops assisted by AMISOM and SNA soldiers. The tactical mobility of al Shabaab has allowed them to move inland and establishes bases in unsecured areas. However, the advent of al Shabaab into areas previously held by AMISOM risks exposing adjacent AMISOM bases to terror attacks besides imperiling logistics for both AMISOM and SNA.
Al Shabaab today also attacked a government convoy at a place called KM60 in Merka area. Information is still scanty but Somali intelligence sources presently indicate that there are no casualties.
Why let them take up an area this easily they should b pushed further away from all their strongholds
