Lizard Squad – the anonymous and amorphous hacker group – has taken credit for the simultaneous web outages of several popular internet services including Facebook, Instagram, Tinder, Hipchat and AIM. Facebook went offline early today. Bing – Microsoft’s search engine – also experienced connection problems.
Lizard Squad took credit through their official twitter handle @LizardMafia. The massive DDOS (distributed denial of service) against the affected social media sites indicates that the hacker group is currently utilizing more powerful cyber tools to attack web servers.
Lizard Squad stated that they did not take Twitter offline as the site provided them with the only communication channel to the outside world. They have promised to carry out more attacks.
