No Kenyan aircraft has been shot down by the Islamist-terrorists in Somalia, intelligence sources in Kismayu Somalia have confirmed.
Media reports picked from Al-Shabaab propaganda outlets online sent reports through their social media accounts hinting that a second Kenya airforce jet was brought down.
Al-Shabaab terrorists uses the 1950-era Igla Man-Portable Air Defense System (MANPADS) designated The SA-18 Grouse by NATO which cannot reach the flying height of Kenya airforce F-5 Tiger II Freedom.
The 9K38 Igla is a soviet man-portable infra-red surface to air missile (SAM) which has no capability to strike a supersonic jet.
Al-Shabaab militants have been trying to claim responsibility of the jet crash which fell after an engine failed as it turned back home from a mission.
