AMISOM Troops in Kismayu launched a rescue mission that led to the killing of Al-Shabaab militants who had abducted Miraa traders in the port city.
An air and ground assault team was deployed to track down the abductors who had taken over 30 traders captive and were heading for Jiliib.
Kenya Defense Forces helicopters being used as part of the AMISOM assets intercepted the militants and provided reconnaissance intelligence for a ground assault unit.
The ground team consisted of Kenya Special Forces and a small unit of the Ras-Kamboni militia which works closely with the KDF.
The special forces attacked the abductors assets and managed to rescue the 30 traders who included both men and women.
The successful operation has been highly praised.
