Somali Militants have attacked an AMISOM/Somali National Army military base in Afmadow.
Afmadow district is in Middle Jubba region of Somalia, an area which was largely controlled by the militants until Kenya army rolled tanks and APC’s backed by air cavalry killed thousands of them and chased their troops away.
The AMISOM base was attacked Thursday night, by insurgents of the Al-Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab terrorist group.
A mortar and artillery confrontation ensued and lasted 2 hours with intelligence reports indicating there were causalities.
The attacks on AMISOM bases signal a weakening of the troops deployed in the region.
Kenyan operations had gone very well and yielded the desired results including the complete destruction of structures of command and economics for the militant group.
Unfortunately, the current AMISOM command seems rudderless and insurgency is gaining large footholds.
Kenya may opt out of AMISOM due to straining relations with the Somali government.
