Mandera;
On 19th May 2014, police received reports that a convoy ferrying miraa to Mandera town had been attacked by suspected Al-Shabaab militants.
The convoy of 3 vehicles was attacked by armed militants at about 0730hrs, near Arabia along the Lafey – Mandera road.
The attack left 8 dead, 6 injured, and 2 other missing.
Intelligence sources report that Al-shabaab assailants attacked the convoy of three vehicles where upon hijacking the vehicles they burned 1 vehicle and hijacked the other 2.
Police were deployed to recover the hijacked vehicles and the unit involved with the tracking and pursuing of the hijackers were ambushed.
The police vehicle their vehicle was ambushed along the road and burned by the Al-shabaab militants who had laid the ambush.
Confirmed intelligence reports show that three police officers were burned to death with 6 others injured.
The injured police officers were evacuated to Mandera district hospital by their colleagues who had come as reinforcements after the first unit called for support after they were ambushed.
Security has been beefed up in the area and more strategic deployments made to keep the zone safe from similar attacks.
