A South Sudanese military intelligence source reports that Riek Marchar rebels in Bentiu and Nasir towns have fled to neighbouring Ethiopia after government troops have captured a rebel stronghold.
SPLA Troops launched a fierce attack on Bentiu, a rebel stronghold recently wrestled away from SPLA and taken back control of another town called Nasir, sending rebels fleeing toward the Ethiopian border.
The government of Southern Sudan based in Juba launched the offensive after confirming its commitment to end the 5 months bloody violence.
President Salva Kiir told U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry his commitment to end hostilities with rebel leader and former vice president Riek Machar and discuss ending the violence.
Col. Philip Aguer, the SPLA spokesman reported that government troops took the rebel bases in Nasir and overran the town which is in the Upper Nile region.
Military intelligence sources in the areas also confirmed that GOSS troops captured Bentiu from the rebels after a daylong onslaught on the rebel positions in the oil hub.
South Sudan ebbed into violence after former vice president Riek Marchar staged a coup to overthrow Salva Kiir government but failed.
