33 year old Nigerian citizen Lawal Olaniyi Babafemi also known as Ayatollah Mustapha admitted to terrorism charges in a US federal court.
Ayatollah Mustapha pleaded guilty in a Brooklyn federal to helping AQAP an Al-Qaeda offshoot in the Middle East.
Prosecutors charged Lawal Olaniyi Babafemi with helping Al-Qaeda offshoot AQAP recruit English speaking people in Nigeria to join and support the terrorists.
Lawal Olaniyi Babafemi admitted to a US federal judge that he provided material support to an Al-Qaeda affiliate and participated in the media campaigns to recruit operatives through the magazine Inspire’ a terror publication’.
Intelligence shows that Ayatollah Mustapha travelled twice to Yemen from Nigeria on January and August to train with Al-Qaeda leader’s further crediting Lawal Olaniyi Babafemi Al-Qaeda link.
Prosecutors further proved that Babafemi, 33, helped AQAP’s media operations by assisting the publication and distribution of the terror magazine “Inspire,”
Lawal Olaniyi Babafemi was paid $9000 by Al-Qaeda to recruit terrorist cell operators through Anwar al-Awlaki, a U.S. citizen born in New Mexico killed in a U.S. drone strike in Yemeni 2011.
