Rebel forces in South Sudan attacked a United Nations compound in Bor, the capital of Jonglei state in South Sudan, killing more than 50 civilians housed there.
Men disguised as protesters broke their way into the UN compound and opened fire inside a facility housing more than 5000 internally displaced persons.
UNMISS compound in Bor was attacked using rocket propelled grenades and assault rifles by unidentified group of alleged protesters.
This is a serious escalation of the South Sudan conflict since the UNMISS compound in Bor is not partisan and offers humanitarian help to all.
About 60 people were badly injured in the incident and 2 UN peacekeepers sustained injuries repelling the attack.
Chinese and Indian military serve the UNMISS compound in Bor as peacekeepers.
