At least nine people were killed after militants attacked Chiúte village which is located in Meza Administrative Post in the Ancuabe district. A group of over 17 Islamic state terrorists attacked Chiute village in the early morning attacks where they beheaded two people and abducted several others.
As has become a trend in recent attacks by the militants, they looted property, food, and medicine and set ablaze several buildings in the village. The attackers also burned two churches and a village secretary’s residence.
Following the attack, security forces have been deployed into the area even as families and residents vacate and flee towards Pemba and Montepuez. Intelligence indicates that the cells that attacked Meza Administrative post have been amercing supplies most likely in preparation for a major attack towards Pemba city.
