Resumption of US airstrikes continue to disrupt Al-Shabaab operations and movement in various parts and regions of Somalia.
In a recent air bombardment conducted on Aug 17, Pentagon confirmed that US forces killed at least 13 Shabaab Mujahideen fighters in the vicinity of Teedaan, Hiran region of Somalia.
The air assault was in support of the Somali National troops who were being attacked by the Al-Qaeda aligned militants.
According to US-Africa Command, US forces were authorized to conduct strikes in defense of designated partner forces. Initial assessment of the strike indicated that no civilians were injured or killed.
In another air campaign, conducted last week, US forces killed four Shabaab operatives in a strike in the same region.
Al-Shabaab, which the United States designated as a terrorist group, has led an insurgency in an effort to topple Somalia’s federal government for over15 years.
Despite the concerted pressure mounted by the allied coalition troops in support of the Somali National Army, the Islamist militant group continue to wage attacks against hard and soft targets, and still maintain control of swathes of countryside in central and southern Somalia.
