Sunday 8th May 2022, Two Al-Shabaab operatives surrendered to security forces in Bardhere prefecture of Gedo citing much suffering while fighting alongside the Al-Qaeda associated militant group.
According to sources with the security forces, the two terror operatives identified as Ibrahim Hassan Abdi and Sidow Hassan Ali had been fighting for Al-Shabaab for some time and had decided to denounce the militant group and side with the people of Somalia.
The operatives also cited much suffering while in the militant group. This could possibly be lack of food, no payment against their expectation and promises when they were joining the militant group.
However, the Al-Qaeda-linked armed group Al-Shabaab, which has been fighting to topple the internationally-backed government continue to mount deadly operations in Somalia against military targets.
Recently the militant group launched a heavy attack on AU forces (ATMIS) military base operated by the Burundian troops in El Baraf area of Mahaday district, Somalia’s Middle Shabelle region recording scores in fatalities.
