Over ten Al-Shabaab operatives were killed and several others fled with gun wounds after security operators conducted operations in areas of central Somalia.
According to military sources, security forces drawn from the US-trained unit and supported by African Union troops, intelligence-led operations were conducted in areas where Al-Shabaab reportedly were at advanced stage of conducting attack in several villages in Mudug region.
The joint forces reportedly took control of the villages and recovered weapons. Some of the recaptured villages and areas include Qararow, kalaxiran, Goryale, Dhumale, Caad, Gabdhale, Waable, Xawal Xasan Cadde, Hareeri Dheere and Gaade areas.
The troops have intensified security operations to liberate towns and villages under the control of Al-Shabaab group. The Al-Qaeda associated Al-Shabaab was once in control of large swathes in south and central Somalia including the capital.
Intensified military operations have significantly edged Al-Shabaab out. However, the Islamist militant group still control remote areas in part of central and southern Somalia where its persistently continue to carry out deadly attacks in rural and major towns.
