Uganda unveiled a fully deigned and locally made armoured combat vehicle. Uganda’s commander of land forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba in a tweet confirmed that Uganda unveiled its first locally made 4×4 infantry fighting vehicle (IFV).
Gen. Muhoozi noted that the combat vehicle from the design works to manufacturing was done in Uganda but did not provide details of its features and cost.
The combat vehicle, named ‘chui’ (Swahili word for leopard), was commissioned by, President Yoweri Museveni who is the commander in chief of Uganda’s Peoples Defense Forces (UPDF).
The Chui appeared to be almost identical to the Nyati mine-resistant, ambush protected vehicle (MRAP) that was unveiled by the South African company Twiga earlier this year.
Twiga and its Kampala-based partner Impala Services and Logistics previously established a manufacturing and maintenance facility for the Nyoka armoured vehicle at the UPDF’s Magamaga Barracks. The Nyoka is a version of the South African-developed Mamba.
