The Al-Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab despite persistent activity in central and southern regions of Somalia also continue to suffer huge blows from military operations.
In one of such latest operations, Al-Shabaab dealt a huge blow after 13 of its terror operatives were killed and several others wounded in joint military operations in Bakool region of southern Somalia.
Corresponding open sources reports indicated that military operations in a village under Wajid district of Bakool region, frequented by Al-Shabaab raids saw over a dozen militants killed in joint military operation. The troops also recovered weapons and military equipment left by Al-Shabaab fighters after fierce encounter with the military forces.
Al-Shabaab activity in Bakool region of Somalia have disrupted the way of live of residents, many have fled from their villages following intimidation and threats by the Islamist militants to join them or face consequences. Security chiefs in-charge of the latest operation noted that they will continue operations against Al-Shabaab until the troubled villages are liberated.
The joint military operations come two days after Galmudug forces backed by Somali military claimed to have recovered a large number of weapons and communication equipment following covert operations in central Somalia. The forces also destroyed training bases belonging to Al-Shabaab militant group.
Such intelligence-led operations against Al-Shabaab encouraged especially in central and southern parts of Somalia where the militants still control huge swathes of rural and urban areas where they conduct surprise ambushes and plant landmines on both military and civilian targets.
