The military in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has dismantled key networks and collaborators that have been aiding ISCAP activities in Beni. In a communique, the military announced that their operations took out networks in charge of recent targeted assassinations, IEDs distribution as well as local leadership that has been enabling the group’s impunity in attacking the residents of Beni and neighboring Ituri.
The largest network of ISCAP collaborators had formed a group called Unity Ground Destruction (UGD) which had a base in Kasindi-Lubiriha on the border with Uganda and was behind the recent targeted assassinations in the city of Beni.
A second network is that of alleged carriers and depositories of homemade bombs. One of them was arrested in Biakato in the territory of Mambasa in Ituri and was carrying 153 pieces of explosives and 20 detonators. This echoes recent intelligence that indicates that ISCAP has been developing its ability and capacity to incorporate IEDs and bombing in its attack roster.
The last ISCAP collaborator was a mobilizer for the group in Mughalika and his arrest led to further arrests of at least 13 village and locality chiefs who have been facilitating the movement, activities, and hiding the terrorists that have been terrorizing the residents of Beni and Ituri.
