The Islamic State, Somalia (ISS) militant group dealt a huge blow following the death of the group’s top foreign jihadist. The Pakistani-born jihadist who was serving in the ISIS affiliated militant group in northern Somalia, was identified as Khalid Jama Osama.
Khalid Jama Osama has been serving in IS-Somalia for a couple of years since the group now led by Abdiqadir Mumin split from the Al-Qaeda affiliate, Al-Shabaab.
The group which mainly operates in Golis mountains in Puntland, northern Somalia, though reportedly have a diminishing ability they occasionally, strike targeting security forces and civilians in the semi-autonomous northeastern state.
The Pakistani jihadist was killed in Puntland Security Forces (PSF) operation that was conducted in Almadow mountains in Puntland’s Bari region over the weekend. PSF through a statement confirmed that its troops killed a top IS-Somalia jihadist identified as Khalid Jama Osama. PSF also noted that the troops destroyed the group’s main hideout in the operation and also seized several weapons. Dozens of other militants reportedly fled with serious injuries according to authorities in Puntland.
Khalid Jama Osama was one of the dozens of foreign terror operatives who was closely working with the Islamic State Somalia group which boasts to have recruited several fighters from the Middle East. The militant group in the past months document and promoted pictures of jihadist training at undisclosed location within the Puntland State of Somalia.
Khalid Jama Osama was one of the IS-Somalia operatives being pursued by Puntland Security Forces. He’s said to have been the head of operations of the IS group in Somalia. He now joins the list of deadly terror operatives who have been killed in Somalia in recent months either in-ground combats in airstrikes. Another Pakistani-born operative fighting for IS-Somalia was killed by US forces early this year.
