A senior Al-Shabaab operative was killed and two others arrested in an intelligence-led operation conducted the Middle Shabelle region of Somalia.
According to the local sources, joint troops conducted an operation aided by intelligence provided of an Al-Shabaab cell responsible for latest series of IED attacks along the road linking Balad and Jowhar towns and also ambush raids on military convoys and operating bases in localities of Middle Shabelle.
Military intelligence sources confirmed of the joint operations ongoing towards flushing the Al-Qaeda aligned militants from their hideouts in the troubled localities/regions of southern Somalia.
AMISOM in support of the weak Somali government forces have intensified operations against Al-Shabaab in southern regions, but the militants still control some rural areas in those regions, conducting ambushes and planting landmines on both military and civilian targets.
