Rebels and Lou-Nuer’s white army band have taken much of the Jonglei state capital, Bor, intelligence sources report.
The SPLA troops loyal to Salva Kiir’s government have made a tactical withdrawal to Malual Chaat army barracks, 2 miles south of Bor.
The tactical withdrawal is part of the intelligence strategy to allow Riek Machar to consolidate strategic gains which will allow him to think of negotiating.
Intelligence reports show Machar wants Bor as his bargaining chip. If he has Bor, he will negotiate and that’s the truly profound, a South Sudan intelligence official verified.

Bor is 190 kilometers south of Juba, the republics capital.
President Kiir is keen on peace and stability and has agreed to end the blood fighting which has claimed thousands and displaced tens of thousands internally.
If Riek Machar rebel negotiators refuse to negotiate, there is a likelihood of a military strike from Kenya or Uganda or both on the rebel positions.
Peace talks are scheduled to start in neighboring Ethiopia on Wednesday, New Year.
