The newly Turkish trained Somali are expected to step up fight against the Al-Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab.
Speaking to newly trained soldiers in Mogadishu, the Deputy Force Commander of the Somali National Army, Mohamed Ali Barise congratulated the new troops saying they will greatly boost military operations in renewed efforts to defeat Al-Shabaab in Somalia.
The Deputy Force Commander noted that the troops will be deployed in central and southern Somalia to join other forces fighting Al-Shabaab. He added that the deployment will be one of the steps to secure the Somalia and defend it from the extremist fighters.
More than one hundred soldier of Somalia elite forces known as Gorgor forces who completed training course in Turkey have returned the country on Friday and they were welcomed at the airport by Somali Defense Minister Hassan Ali Mohamed and other SNA military commanders.
According to Defense Minister, the elite forces will play a key role in the government’s efforts to stabilize the country by pressuring on Al-Shabaab. He expressed his Government commitment to defeat terror group and restore stability in Somalia.
Separately, a total of three hundred Darwish trainees of the Somali Police Force have graduated at the General Kahiye Police Training Academy in Mogadishu after completing a month-long specialised training.
The police trainees were first trained in Djibouti for three months before undergoing a refresher programme at the police academy in January 2020 will now be deployed to secure population centres in liberated areas and newly liberated areas of Lower Shabelle region.
Training
The police were trained on; combating terrorism, intelligence gathering and sharing, patrols, stop and search techniques, human rights, community policing, criminal justice, policing standards, gender, public order management, operations, convoy control and management, EOD and IED awareness.
