Latest military reports from Somalia indicate that U.S. latest airstrike killed one Al-Shabaab militant in the vicinity of Jilib Somalia.
The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) announced on Monday that it had conducted an airstrike targeting the Al-Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab in Jilib locality whereby one militant was killed in support of Federal Government of Somalia.
AFRICOM initial assessment concluded the airstrike killed one (1) Al-Shabaab and that there were no civilians who were injured or killed as a result of this airstrike.
Despite increased U.S. airstrikes in Somalia, the militant group remains resilient and still wages attacks targeting Somali government forces and other counterterrorism partners in Somalia. Though the airstrikes disrupts the militant’s movement but to defeat the militant group, counterterrorism assets need to shift military operation tactics and fight them from hideouts.
