Denmark has announced it will send a C-130J Super Hercules transport aircraft to Mali and two EH-101 helicopters to the Sahel region. The deployment of the military aircrafts is in line with the European nation’s agenda to strengthen its military contributions to the Sahel region.
The Danish Parliament approved its Government’s proposal to provide extra support to the region earlier in October to especially to Mali which has been struggling with Jihadists. Denmark will send a C-130J Super Hercules transport aircraft as well as up to 65 persons for six months from mid-November 2019. Denmark will also deploy up to 10 personnel to an intelligence unit within MINUSMA, whose task is to help strengthen the mission’s situational awareness and increase the security of MINUSMA forces.
Denmark has also agreed to heed France’s call to the EU to boost the French-led Operation Barkhane for which she will deploy two EH-101 transport helicopters including up to 70 persons. The choppers will be used conduct reconnaissance tasks, gather information as well as transport personnel and military equipment in the involved countries; Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauretania, and Niger.
