An Italian Military convoy in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, has been bombed by the Al-Qaeda affiliate in Somalia. The convoy was using a road in Jaale-Siyaad General area in the capital when a roadside improvised explosive device (RCIED) detonated destroying their vehicle. This is the second attack targeting the Italian Military officers in Somalia.
The Italian troops had just left their station at Halane Green Zone enroute Somalia Ministry of Defense Headquarters when the remote controlled IED struck their convoy. There’s no assessment on the attack through injuries have been confirmed. The terror group has continued to demonstrate it’s capability to breach security and intelligence watchers to successfully plant roadside bombs outside the Green Zone. This is a early warning the group has morphed strategy and has planed ahead.
The Italian Army units in Somalia have managed to maintain a low profile. Their operations in their former colony remain low-key. The kidnaping of a female Intalian National in Kenya’s Kilifi County is associated with the presence of Italian military in Somalia.
