At least twelve Burundi soldiers working under African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) have been killed and six others injured in an al-Shabaab attack outside Somali capital. The soldiers were killed in an ambush on AMISOM convoy traveling in Middle Shabelle region over the weekend.
The convoy was returning from a mission in Jowhar and on their back to Mogadishu confirming the earlier reports by an al Shabaab affiliate media claiming responsibility for the attack.
The attack comes two months since the last attack on Burundi soldiers which claimed the lives of six soldiers and several others. The Burundi contingent is the second largest within the AMISOM with 5,432 troops, after Uganda which has more than 6,000 troops.
