Situation military reports from Somalia indicate that a fierce clash broke out between police forces and unknown gunmen in Baladweyne town, about 335 km north of the Somali capital, Mogadishu.
Unknown assailants launched an ambush attack on station in the town on Wednesday evening leaving one person wounded.
Police boss, Ali Dhuh Abdi in the town confirmed of the clash and lauded police officers who successfully repulsed the attack.
Though it remains unclear the motive behind the raid, Somali militants are known to target security outposts beside replenishing their arsenal by looting.
Beledweyne is a strategic town in central Somalia. Located in the Beledweyne District and is the capital of the Hiran province. The town is situated in the Shebelle Valley near the Ethiopia border, some 210 miles north of Mogadishu.
Beledweyne is divided by the Shebelle River into eastern and western sections and is an agriculturally rich town thus militant groups have economic interests.
