The Somali based terror group Shabaab Mujahideen destroyed a Safaricom base station in Hulugho area. The terror cell destroyed the station wall and subsequently destroyed all ground equipment using explosives. The police reservist unit tasked with securing the critical infrastructure were unable to repel the attack.
The terror group continues to target critical infrastructure particularly communication masts in North Eastern Kenya. Security officials in Kenya haven’t commented on the event yet. The attack was conducted on the eve of the 1998 August 7th bombing in Nairobi targeting the American Embassy in the capital. Critical Infrastructures remains the terror groups’ main targets. Security officials in Kenya should improve security for such targets with the National Police Reservists (NPR) units as supplementary security.
