At least 15 Al Shabaab militants were killed in a military operation in Somalia’s southern regions and consequent recapture of several villages in Lower Shabelle. The fifteen were killed after the forces conducted an offensive against Al Shabaab in Wanlaweyn town in the region.
Further, SNA commander in charge of the 35th division reported that the troops seized Yaaqbari Weyne, MadaxMarodi and Lego villages during operation. He added that the forces will proceed with the operations until they drive the militants out of the entire Lower Shabelle region.
Somali National Army backed By AU peacekeeping troops in support from US drone strikes intensified operations against armed group Al Shabaab in recent months. The round-up operations have led to the recapture some key strongholds previously held by Al Shabaab.
