The persistent threat posed by ISIS militants in Mozambique’s northern province of Cabo Delgado has prompted police cooperation between her and neighboring Tanzania. The joint task force mainly comes after 11 people were beheaded by the terror outfit with the majority of them being Tanzanian.
The decision was arrived following an emergency between General Commander of the Mozambican police, Bernadino Rafael, and his Tanzanian counterpart, Simon Sirro, in the Tanzanian region of Mtwara.
Previously, the Tanzanian government continued to downplay the presence of a large number of significantly dangerous terrorist cells in the country. Despite data and credible intelligence confirming there’s a large number of cells that pose an immediate threat to the region and that the bulk of the Islamic States terror group’s rank and file in Northern Mozambique is primarily Tanzanian.
The new joint counterterrorism operations between Mozambique and Tanzania will ensure that the steady supply of recruits the Islamic States terrorists organization’s branch in Mozambique, (an offshoot of Islamic States in Central Africa, ISCAP) is cut off. Moreover, reports have been indicating chatter of terrorist enthusiast seeking to travel to Mozambique from across East Africa and Greater Lakes region through Tanzania to join the relatively new terror organization in the region.
