Somali National Army (SNA) troops have retaken a key area in Middle Shabelle previously held by Al Shabaab following operations in the area. SNA backed by allied AMISOM troops recaptured Madah-Isse village, located in the outskirts of Jowhar.
Jowhar serves as the administrative capital of the region has in the past experienced periodic attacks from al Shabaab combatants. SNA troops from military bases in Qalimow town and Ceelka Geelow have been sweeping the regions in a bid to drive the militants out.
Intelligence reports indicate that recent defeats and recapture of key towns and villages from al Shabaab militants can be credited to information coming from defectors from Lower and Middle Shabelle that have been fleeing the chaos and violence within the terrorist group.
