Kenya Government Security Officers in the North Eastern Province have successfully and safely extracted the driver of the ill-fated Police Special operations unit from a hostile area along the border with Somalia. The officer was stuck in the area after an attack on the police patrol vehicle on regular mid-morning patrol operation was destroyed by a terrorist RIED attack.
The driver survived the roadside improvised explosive device (RIED) attack conducted by the Somali based Al-Qaeda affiliate, Harakat Shabaab Mujahideen. Several officers were died in the attack. The officer exploited the geography of the area to secure himself. The local community played a key role in the rescue of the officer.
The rescue operation was coordinated by deep cover operatives and residents at Konton and Khorof Harar areas, successfully outsmarting enemy combatants. The participation of the local community in the rescue mission is a significant milestone in combating extremists. The Kenyan Government is successfully out-bidding the terror in the area. The group has consistently exploited the local community in its attempt to upend government order.
