The Somali government vowed that it will retake regions held by the Al-Qaeda affiliate, Al-Shabaab terrorist group across the country.
In a military operation that began on Monday, the Somali National Army (SNA) retook four regions in Lower Shabelle, in southern Somalia according to the ministry of information.
The Somali government “reaffirms its commitment to retake stronghold villages held by the terrorists,” the information ministry said in a statement.
Al-Shabaab has lost many regions of Somalia including the capital Mogadishu but still conducts guerilla-like attacks in some of the areas still under their control, especially parts of southern and central Somalia.
The terrorist group continues to carry out targeted attacks in Mogadishu and other regions targeting public places and African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) and government military bases.
