The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) conducted a sweeping operation against the Islamic State (ISIS) in the eastern countryside of the Al-Sweida Governorate where they managed to dismantle a sleeper cell hiding in the region.
According to a military report from Al-Sweida, the Syrian Arab Army identified and stormed an Islamic State hideout near the town of Kara in the Badiya Al-Sham region of Syria. The military was able to kill several terrorists and arrest others in what is being viewed as a preventative measure geared at ensuring that ISIS doesn’t resurface in any parts of Syria.
Many Islamic State terrorists are still believed to be hiding in the caves of the Badiya Al-Sham region; this has prompted the Syrian Arab Army and their allies to step up their operations inside this area.
The SAA has been relying on intelligence acquired from arrested members of the terror organization to root out sleeper cells as well as make sure that ISIS doesn’t rebuild in liberated regions. A captured Islamic State member told the Syrian Army that there are an estimated 200 terrorists still hiding out in the Al-Sweida countryside.
Previously, intelligence reports indicated that while the caliphate has been defeated, ISIS as a whole has not been defeated since the group has been seemingly establishing cells in liberated areas.
