Somali special forces backed by US troop conducted air and ground assaults in al Shabaab militants near Marka town in an operation that killed at least 22 al Shabaab militants. The location of the operation was at least 91km southwest of Somalia’s capital Mogadishu.
Among those killed were two senior commanders of the group in the region a move that seeks to further destabilize the terror organization in south and central Somalia. The two senior commanders have been since identified as Abu Sheikh Yasin Mohamed and Abu Mohamed Hamza and are believed to be part of the heavy presence of al Shabaab in Marka.
