Egyptian security forces killed seven (7) terror militants in a firefight and raid conducted in the capital Cairo on Thursday, March 7, the interior ministry said.
According to the source, the militants “opened fire” on security forces at a checkpoint on the southern part of the city’s ring road, leaving one officer wounded, the security responded killing three attackers.
The militants who were driving a pick-up truck had disguised themselves in electricians’ work clothes were planning a hostile act planting a bomb in Giza. An explosive device, guns and electric cables were found in the truck, the sources said.
Security checkpoints had been set up in response to intelligence that militants planning series of attacks with the aim of sowing chaos.
Security forces further killed four other terror militants in a raid on an apartment in the southern outskirts of Cairo, where bomb-making material and weapons were found, the interior ministry added.
Authorities said those killed in both incidents were part of the militant Hasm group, an armed affiliate of the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood.
