The United States military continues with its offensive against the Islamist militant groups in Somalia.
Latest military reports from Somalia indicate that U.S. conducted another precision airstrike targeting the Al-Qaeda linked Al-Shabaab militants in the vicinity of Shebeeley in the central Hiraan region of Somalia killing 24 Al-Shabaab fighters.
According to a statement by US Africa Command (AFRICOM), U.S. operations in support of Federal Government of Somalia continues to degrade Al-Shabaab militants.
The precision airstrike is in line with a large effort to support the Somali National Army (SNA) as it piles pressure on the terrorist network and its recruiting efforts in the region.
This is the ninth such airstrike carried out by the US this year (2019). The U.S. carried out nearly 50 airstrikes in 2018 in the Horn of Africa nation against the Al-Qaeda-linked Al-Shabaab.
On January 19, 2019 the U.S. announced that it forces carried an airstrike and killed 52 Al-Shabaab militants in Middle Juba region after a “large group” mounted an attack on Somali forces.
The United States has intensely stepped up airstrikes against Al-Shabaab in Somalia.
