The first batch of US-backed Somali special forces referred to as Danab has been deployed to Dhusmareb, the capital city of Galmudug State of Somalia. According to intelligence reports, the troops were reportedly airlifted from Galkayo town.
The US-backed special forces, would launch new anti-Al Shabaab operations in towns in Galmudug. The US-led coalition forces will carry out new operations against Eldher and Elbur towns held by Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab.
Despite al Shabaab having been pushed out most urban regions in Somali, they still pose a great threat and have hideouts in rural villages and as such the new reinforcements will boost the anti-Shebab campaign in the region. The militants have been conducting attacks in central and south Somalia and therefore the US trained and backed troops will have a much-need upper hand to outwit the terrorists in the regions.
