At least six terrorist operatives were shot dead in eastern Burkina Faso after they attempted to attack a security patrol team on Monday, December 3.
Burkina Faso police source indicate that one police officer was wounded during the firefight that took place at about 0500 GMT near Bougui, around 10 km (6 miles) from Fada N’Gourma, the main town in the East Region administrative area.
The source confirmed that a patrol team of the territorial gendarmerie brigade of Fada N’Gourma was ambushed in the village of Bougui. The terror operatives opened fire at the convoy, damaging the lead vehicle and subsequently prompting a fierce exchange of gunfire.
The police responded, firing on the attackers, killing six of them but leaving one officer with a foot injury. The police also recovered several weapons, including Kalashnikovs and ammunition.
