The US State Department has announced that Washington has approved the sale of 10 Boeing Apache ground-support attack helicopters to Egypt. The sale is estimated to cost $1 billion for AH-64E Apache Attack Helicopters.
The State Department has also approved the determination of a possible Foreign Military Sale to Egypt of 46,000 M831A1 and M865 rounds and 10,000 APFSDS-T rounds for an estimated cost of $201 million.
This is the US’ second approval of the sale of the helicopters to foreign militaries as it approved the sale of six Boeing AH-64E Apache helicopters complete with weapon systems and support equipment worth $930 million to the Indian military.
Egypt intends to expand its existing fleet of multi-mission heavy attack helicopters to address U.S.-Egyptian interest in countering terrorist activities emanating from the Sinai Peninsula that undermine regional stability.
This purchase by Egypt will contribute to its military’s goal to update its capability while further enhancing greater interoperability between Egypt, the U.S., and other allies
