Police in Mozambique have arrested at least 200 people believed to be members or have ties to the terrorist group known as Al-Shabaab operational in the country’s north. The Islamist group is believed to have been responsible for an Islamist attack in the northern province of Cabo Delgado that killed at least 12 people and caused thousands to flee for safety in neighboring Tanzania.
Victims of the most recent attack were either hacked to death with machetes or died in the flames of their burning homes. This is the third such attack in a month, leaving a total of 20 people dead.
The Al-Shabaab group has been engaged in skirmishes with the police and is gradually evolving to full-blown terror organization using their MO of brutal violence and setting fire on houses.
