Iraqi forces have arrested at least a dozen members of the outlawed ISIS terrorist organization in northern Nineveh province. According to the local police chief, Maj. Gen. Hamad al-Jabouri, the militants have been arrested in crackdown campaigns in several areas in Nineveh.
Additionally, military forces seized explosive materials, including explosive vests and a number of improvised devices, in the security swoop. Last year, Iraqi officials declared that Daesh’s military presence in the country had been neutralized following a three-year conflict with the army backed by the U.S.-led coalition.
Nevertheless, Iraqi forces continue to carry out frequent operations with the aim of decisively ending the group’s lingering presence. The security operations are geared at ensuring that no active Daesh cells are operational in the liberated areas.
