The United States has announced that an airstrike conducted in coordination with Somali military has killed four members of the al-Shabaab terror organization. According to a statement released by the U.S. Africa Command, the airstrike was conducted in Araara village of Lower Jubba in Southern Somalia.
The airstrike was conducted after armed militants were maneuvering to attack partner forces during a patrol hence it was a collective self-defense airstrike. The statement further echoed the sentiments of reinvigorated strikes as they continue to use all authorized and appropriate measures to protect U.S. citizens and to disable terrorist threats.
In 2018, the number of airstrikes by the US on al Shabaab targets and positions have been on the steady rise in what has appeared as a bolstered efforts by the US to aid its partners in Somali and by extension the Horn of Africa region.
