Somali forces backed by African Union Mission in Somalia have captured several villages in southern Somalia from Al-Shabaab. In a well-coordinated operation, the allied forces took control of Fidow, Dhin-Garas, Maqudale, and Kiliga-Shinaha on the border between Hiiraan and Middle Shabelle regions.
While the initial stages of the operations have proven very successful security officials say that more are still underway to liberate more areas still under Al-Shabaab control. The latest attack came amid increased military operations in the southern regions of the country, conducted jointly by African Union forces and the Somali National Army (SNA).
SNA forces have been conducting numerous operations in the South and Central Somalia to ensure that the al-Qaeda affiliated group is defeated and a capable security apparatus is erected ahead of the much anticipated AMISOM exit.
